About the role
Starship Child Health is looking for core clinicians to join our Speech-language Therapy team. The successful applicant will provide assessment and management for babies and children, primarily with paediatric dysphagia or feeding needs, across a broad range of specialisms in the acute setting. We are looking for someone that can demonstrate excellent clinical reasoning and use of evidence based practice whilst upholding a flexible and pro-active approach. Superb organisational and communication skills, and an ability to work well in a team are a must, as well as a patient and supportive nature.
This is a permanent role with full- and part-time applicants considered and forms part of the wider paediatric therapy team. Please state your desired FTE on your application.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Upskill in acute paediatric dysphagia/feeding in a tertiary children’s hospital, as well as progressing into relevant advanced areas of practice including videofluoroscopy, tracheostomy, critical care, and neonatal care, depending on service needs
- Remain focused in the pursuit of Māori health gain and demonstrate culturally safe practice that encompasses a diverse range of beliefs, values and practices
- Apply clinical reasoning and expertise while modelling evidence- based practice across a broad range of aetiologies
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team, working closely together to ensure best outcomes for our patient care needs

About the Team/Service/ Location
Thrive within a vibrant, innovative and diverse setting amongst a supportive interdisciplinary team of Dietetics, Hospital Play Specialists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Therapists and Social Workers.
This role will be providing acute speech-language therapy input for children and their whanau on the inpatient wards at Starship Children’s Hospital, as well as outpatient instrumental assessment clinics.
About you
As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:
- NZ registration as a Speech-Language Therapist with current Annual Practising Certificate
- 2+ years of post-graduate clinical work experience, with skills in paediatric dysphagia desirable
- Excellent skills in relationship building and communication
- Sound clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence informed practice, as well as a commitment to life-long learning
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary setting
- Effective time management, flexibility, prioritisation and organisation skills
- Value diversity, inclusiveness and empathy
- Enthusiasm for new challenges
