About the Role

Are you an experienced Clinical Pharmacist looking to take the next step in your career, or perhaps you want the flexibility of a part time role? Do you have an interest in cardiothoracic services? If yes, then this is the position for you.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Clinical Pharmacist with excellent communication skills to join our Clinical Pharmacy team working within the cardiothoracic surgical unit at Te Toka Tumai Auckland.

As an experienced Clinical Pharmacist, passionate about putting patients at the centre of everything you do, you’ll be in your element here with us. You can look forward to joining the New Zealand’s largest cardiothoracic and vascular service that provides nationwide tertiary level intensive care, and care of complex cardiology and cardiothoracic patients including heart and lung transplant patients.

In this role, primarily based in the cardiothoracic surgical unit, you will be an integral part of the cardiothoracic and vascular care team providing support and guidance in all aspects of medicines use. It is an innovative, professionally stimulating work environment where you will support the specialist clinicians to ensure appropriate, safe and cost-effective delivery of medications to our patients.

Funded support is available to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy Prescribing and qualify as a Pharmacist Prescriber, enabling you to practise at the full extent of your scope. The role offers active involvement in the ongoing evolution of the service, including development and review of protocols and guidelines, prescription review, and delivery of education, training, and supervision for rotational pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team. You will also continue to build your leadership capability by supporting the Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Cardiovascular and Surgical Services and the Associate Clinical Lead Pharmacist – Clinical Pharmacy Services.

About you

You will be an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist, committed to furthering yourself and your peers with the ability to role model the Te Toka Tumai Auckland values.

  • Qualified with a B.Pharm degree with NZ registration or applicable NZ recognised qualification from overseas, postgraduate clinical qualifications are desirable
  • Registered, or be eligible for registration, with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • 3 to 5 years hospital pharmacy experience, with recent cardiology, surgical and/or intensive care experience highly desirable
  • Drive, enthusiasm and initiative with excellent organisational and inter-personal skills are essential
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a drive to eliminate health inequities for Māori and Pacific whānau is essential
  • Pro-active and can-do approach with the ability to be flexible and work autonomously as well as in a team
  • Excellent communication and time management skills are essential, as well as the ability to develop close working relationships

We offer competitive remuneration commensurate with your skill, experience and qualifications, as per the Allied/Public Health and Technical SECA.
