About the Role

Senior Clinical Pharmacist – ICU 

As a Senior Clinical Pharmacist in ICU, you will deliver highquality, effective clinical pharmacy services across a diverse and complex criticalcare caseload, working within a supportive multidisciplinary team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting the safe, effective, and quality use of medicines across the ICU, including medicines reconciliation, discharge counselling, and contributing to the inpatient pharmacy dispensary services.
  • Actively contributing to the initiation, development, and implementation of quality improvement activities.
  • Supporting the development of guidelines, procedures, and protocols that enhance continuity of care.

 

Pharmacist Educator 

As a Pharmacist Educator, you will have the opportunity to further develop your coaching and mentoring skills while supporting the professional growth of the pharmacy team. In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate and support the professional development of the pharmacy team to support with building a structured, supportive learning environment that strengthens clinical capability across the service.
  • Guide, mentor, and supervise earlycareer pharmacists.
  • Provide education and support to pharmacy students undertaking observational placements.

This role includes the opportunity to participate in the on-call roster as needed, which includes working weekend shifts compensated at overtime rates.

About the Team/Service

Health New Zealand – Taranaki’s Pharmacy Service is a collaborative and supportive department who provide safe and effective medication management across both Taranaki Base and Hawera hospitals. We uphold the highest standards in pharmaceutical supply, medicines safety, and clinical services, whilst constantly looking at ways to improve the service and care we deliver. Our staff work collaboratively in many multi-disciplinary teams across medical, nursing and allied health directorates with a shared focused on ensuring optimal patient-centred care.

Health New Zealand – Taranaki is also fortunate to have its dedicated eMedication management team who work closely alongside our Pharmacy department to lead medication management in the various data and digital platforms across the hospital.

About you

We are looking for a Pharmacist who has the ability to work and contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team, has excellent time management skills, is able to communicate effectively with organisational members across all levels, and holds high standards of ethical and professional practice. You will be able to identify improvement opportunities and lead the development of the provision of pharmacy services by undertaking projects and contributing to multidisciplinary working parties / committees to deliver great patient-centred care.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a current annual practising certificate from the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand, under the provisions of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (if you are applying from outside New Zealand, please tell us the registration route that applies, and what stage of that process you are currently at).
  • Previous Critical Care Pharmacist experience and/or extensive hospital pharmacy experience (at least 3 years).
  • A foundation in clinical teaching, with coaching and mentoring experience is desirable.
  • A commitment to continual professional development and the ability to keep abreast of current knowledge and accepted practices.
  • A post-graduate qualification in a relevant clinical area is highly desirable.
