About the Role:
Are you a dynamic and experienced healthcare professional with a passion for leadership and excellence in patient care? We are seeking an outstanding Section Head – Surgical, Women’s Health, and Paediatrics to join our Acute Allied Health team at Middlemore Hospital.
This is a key clinical leadership position responsible for providing strategic and operational oversight of the Surgical, Women’s Health, and Paediatric Social Work Team. The successful candidate will lead a team of dedicated professionals, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care while also managing day-to-day service operations, including after-hours and weekend social work services.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strong clinical leadership and mentorship within the Surgical, Women’s Health, and Paediatric Social Work Team.
• Oversee the effective delivery of social work services across inpatient and community settings.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and transition back into the community.
• Lead service development initiatives, workforce planning, and quality improvement activities.
• Ensure compliance with Counties Manukau Health’s vision, values, and policies.
• Manage staff recruitment, supervision, and professional development.
• Promote health equity and culturally responsive care in alignment with the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
What You Need to Succeed:
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant healthcare social work experience, preferably within surgical, women’s health, and/or paediatrics.
• Current registration with the NZ Social Worker's board and a current annual practising certificate.
• Experience in staff supervision, leadership, and service development.
• Strong understanding of rehabilitation, health, disability, and illness issues.
• Commitment to culturally safe practice and fostering an inclusive workplace.
• Experience in management of women’s health and associated services.
