About the Role

Whakatāne Hospital’s Acute Care Unit is looking for a capable and committed Registered Nurse who thrives in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment. This permanent, part-time role working 28 hours per week offers the opportunity to grow critical care nursing experience while contributing to a multidisciplinary team that delivers high-quality care to patients across the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

The unit includes 11 beds, spanning a 6-bed level one ICU/HDU/CCU and a 5-bed high-acuity space equipped with monitoring capabilities. Our nurses care for both adult and paediatric patients, working closely with 24/7 medical teams in a high trust, collaborative setting.

Based at Whakatāne Hospital, this service plays a critical role in our region’s emergency and high-dependency care.  About You

You will be a calm, adaptable Registered Nurse with sound clinical judgement and the ability to perform well in acute settings. Strong communication, teamwork, and a patient-first attitude are essential. This is a role for a nurse who values professional integrity and thrives under pressure.

What you will bring:

  • Current NZNC registration and Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Experience in acute care, ICU, HDU, or related high-acuity environments
  • Ability to work rostered shifts in a 24/7 care setting
  • Confidence in clinical assessment and responsive decision making
  • Collaborative mindset and the ability to support whānau-centred care
