About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse to join our Acute Assessment Unit on a permanent basis. This is a fast-paced and dynamic clinical area where no two days are the same. You’ll be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients requiring urgent assessment, stabilisation, and treatment, often in the early stages of acute illness or injury. This role is ideal for a nurse who thrives in a busy environment, has strong critical thinking skills, and enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital provides an essential gateway for patients needing rapid assessment and short-term treatment. You’ll be joining a collaborative team of skilled clinicians committed to delivering excellent patient outcomes in a supportive and inclusive environment.

About you
You are a passionate and clinically skilled Registered Nurse who brings both professionalism and compassion to your practice. You thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and have the ability to think critically, prioritise effectively, and remain calm under pressure. With a strong patient-centered approach, you ensure each person in your care is treated with dignity, respect, and empathy.
You will have:
- A current New Zealand Registered Nurse Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- Relevant clinical experience in an acute or emergency setting (AAU, ED, ICU, or similar environments is advantageous)
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- A proactive and collaborative approach to working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- The ability to respond effectively in unpredictable or rapidly changing situations
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice
- An understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable health outcomes for Māori
