About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in our General & Vascular Surgery Unit, you will provide safe, evidence‑based and compassionate care to patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures. You’ll complete comprehensive assessments, develop and implement care plans, monitor patients post‑operatively, and support their recovery through effective clinical interventions and patient education.

You’ll work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, allied health teams and fellow nurses to deliver coordinated and patient‑centred care. This role offers the opportunity to strengthen your clinical skills, gain exposure to acute and elective surgical cases, and contribute to improved health outcomes for patients and their whānau.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teamwork, values continuity of care and thrives in a dynamic surgical environment.

Our General & Vascular Surgery team at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital is committed to delivering high‑quality perioperative and post‑operative care. You’ll join a collaborative multidisciplinary team who value professionalism, whanaungatanga and continuous learning.

About you

You are a compassionate and confident nurse with strong clinical skills and a commitment to excellent patient care. You will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Excellent time‑management and the ability to work well in a busy environment.
  • IV designation.
  • A commitment to culturally responsive care and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Desired:

  • A current PDRP portfolio.
  • Surgical nursing experience.
  • Experience with PCA, epidural management, CVL care or NPWT (advantageous).
