About the Role

Our team of Radiation Therapists are the core of our RT department; they use their specialised knowledge to make the impossible possible and position patients in a way that blends comfort with reproducibility. They provide specific care to patients throughout the course of treatment and education on the management of treatment related side effects. They are also a constant source of support, for both our team and patients

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Ability to simulate, CT, plan and treat a wide range of treatment techniques including SABR and SRT treatments.
  • Maintain and develop clinical guidelines for various techniques in alignment with site-specific working groups.
  • Provide specific care to patients throughout the course of their treatment and educate patients on the management of treatment related side effects
  • Maintain a high level of patient care involving communication and collaboration with the patient, whanau, and other health professionals.

About the Team/Service

The Waikato Regional Cancer Centre is located in the city of Hamilton, New Zealand. This unit serves a population of approximately 850,000 and has approximately 120 staff. We are comprised of an Oncology Department (which includes Radiation Therapy and Chemotherapy outpatient treatment areas), an Inpatient Ward, Palliative Care Service and a Haematology Outpatient Department.

Our RT department centre is an all Varian environment (Eclipse, TrueBeam, Halcyon with Hypersight, Bravos) and delivers advanced treatment techniques, including SABR, IGRT and HyperArc SRT.

About you

  • Possess a wide range of radiation therapy knowledge gathered over time practicing as a radiation therapist.
  • Self-awareness and maturity when dealing with complex situations.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and ability to connect and communicate knowledge with people.
  • Perform well under pressure and able to prioritise and problem solve independently.
  • A commitment towards excellence and quality in radiation therapy technique and patient care.
  • Registration and current practising certificate (without restrictions) as a Radiation Therapist with the New Zealand MRTB.
