About the Role

The primary purpose of the role is to manage the day-to-day functions of Te Whanau a Apanui Community Health Centre ensuring appropriate systems and processes and administrative support are in place which allows the clinical staff to deliver best practice medical care to the local iwi and community.

As practice manager you will:

Lead the administrative team and in collaboration with professional leaders oversee the services provided by the clinical team, ensuring alignment with organisational policies and fostering a culture of high performance, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead people management responsibilities including recruitment, induction, performance development, rostering, leave approval, and supporting professional development and training opportunities.
  • Ensure effective communication and stakeholder engagement through staff meetings, clinical meetings, community updates, and maintaining strong relationships across teams and service partners.
  • Oversee information systems, reporting, and financial processes including patient management systems, compliance requirements, ACC claims, invoicing, reporting, and maintaining accurate records and registers.
  • Provide monthly financial and performance reports to the General Manager, Whakatane hospital.
  • Promote equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations, health and safety, innovation, and risk management while supporting community health initiatives, facility management, and improved health outcomes.

About the Location

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is spread across a vast geographical area.

Te Kaha Medical Clinic is a Rural General Practice that covers an area from Hawai to Potaka along the scenic State Highway 35, providing Healthcare Services for whanau/residents within the boundaries of Te Whanau a Apanui.

Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is one of the Bay of Plenty's largest employers with over 4500 staff.

About you

The preferred candidate will possess, and be able to demonstrate the following essential skills

  • Experience (in the range of 3+ years) in a practice manager senior administration, or community health management role.
  • Proven people leadership experience ideally in a healthcare setting
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (diploma or degree) in business studies or business administration or comparable relevant experience.
  • Understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its reflection within a kaupapa Maori environment.
  • Demonstrated whanau-ora approach
  • Empathy and knowledge in the use of Te reo me nga tikanga.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with the multi-disciplinary team, including medical, nursing and administrative staff.
  • Commitment to strengthen and improve practice operations and efficiencies 
  • Strong understanding and experienced in Practice Management systems and IT systems
  • Flexibility to adapt to variable situations and changing workloads.
  • The successful candidate should also display a willingness to be part of a committed, experienced health team and be keen to live and work on the coast and enjoy all that entails.
  • Knowledge of the community is essential, Understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its reflection within a Kaupapa Maori environment.
