About the Role

The Department of Pharmacy at Te Toka Tumai, Auckland City Hospital has a fantastic opportunity for a registered pharmacist with at least one year’s experience to work with the Medicines Supply and Logistics team. The Pharmacist Supply and Logistics will work positively and collaboratively with the support of senior and experienced staff in the busy inpatient pharmacy. The key focus will be coordinating and maintaining an efficient workflow and the accurate and timely supply of dispensed, compliance packaged, controlled drug, repacked, investigational, unregistered, and compounded medicines to Te Toka Tumai patients and clinical trial participants. This role offers strong opportunities for growth and upskilling in Oncology and Haematology, and serves as an excellent pathway into the hospital pharmacy environment for those at any level of experience.

Business hours are 0800-1630 Monday to Friday and 0800-1200 Saturdays.

The main responsibilities of this role will be:

  • Screening dispensary charts and clinical screening of chemotherapy prescriptions to facilitate ordering and supply
  • Accurately dispense, supply and check medicines including, extemporaneous and aseptic products compounded on site, third party compounded items including chemotherapy and antimicrobials
  • Actively work across and liaise between the Infusions, Chemotherapy, Antimicrobial Supply Team (ICAST) and Clinical services in Oncology and Haematology services to support focused delivery of treatments for patients in this area
  • Accountability for controlled drugs
  • Orienting, training, supervising, and supporting pharmacists, technicians, trainee Pharmacy Accuracy Checking Technicians and students in the dispensary and other supply and logistics areas
  • Reviewing compounding and repacking worksheets, Standard Operating Procedures, and User Guides
  • Maintaining a quality focus by investigating errors and near misses, implementing remedial actions and supporting quality initiatives

Our Pharmacy department is an innovative and exciting place to work. We employ over 120 staff including those working within two retail pharmacies and a flagship inpatient service. We serve over 1200 inpatient beds. Our guiding principle is to put the patient first in everything we do. About you

For this role, you will have:

  • B. Pharm. or other recognised pharmacy qualification
  • NZ registered pharmacist with a current APC
  • At least 1 years’ experience as a registered pharmacist - preferably in a busy hospital pharmacy dispensary
  • Demonstrated proficiency in dispensing and the supply of medicines
  • Applied knowledge of NZ pharmacy legislation and Health & Disability service standard NZS8134.7:210
  • Demonstrated positive and productive work relationships with customers and all levels of staff
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • A commitment to biculturalism
  • A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
