About the Role

As a Paediatric Physiotherapist within the Child Development Service (Te Kunenga Mai Rongokako), you’ll provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, intervention and support for tamariki and their whānau across Hastings and the wider Hawke’s Bay region. You’ll work with a diverse caseload of infants, children and young people with developmental, neurological, physical and sensory needs, using both standardised assessment tools and your clinical expertise to guide intervention plans.

Your role will involve collaborating closely with the wider interprofessional team, supporting goal‑setting with whānau, facilitating safe and effective intervention programmes, and contributing to smooth transitions across services. You will also play an essential part in care planning, equipment assessment and prescription, risk management, and culturally responsive practice.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Based at 208 Avenue Road East in Hastings, the Child Development Service is a warm, supportive, multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high‑quality, family‑centred care for tamariki. The team works collaboratively with whānau, community providers, education partners, NGOs, GPs, and specialist services across the region to ensure seamless, holistic support for children with developmental needs.

You’ll work alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech‑language therapists, cultural advisors, psychologists, paediatricians and kaiāwhina in a service that values teamwork, continuous improvement, cultural safety and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

About you

You’ll be a compassionate, motivated physiotherapist with a passion for working with children and families. You will bring:

  • A Bachelor of Physiotherapy (or equivalent) and current physiotherapy APC.
  • At least four years of relevant clinical experience, ideally with exposure to paediatrics or child development.
  • Strong assessment, clinical reasoning and communication skills.
  • Ability to build warm, effective relationships with tamariki, whānau and colleagues.
  • Confidence working across multidisciplinary and interprofessional teams.
  • Cultural competence and the ability to work respectfully with Māori patients, whānau and staff.
  • A positive, self‑directed approach with strong organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a full NZ driver’s licence.
  • Physical capability for the demands of paediatric physiotherapy (e.g., kneeling, lifting, mobility tasks).

Membership in the Physiotherapy Professional Association and experience with paediatric or child development services are desirable.
