About the Role

The Child Development team at Whangarei Hospital is looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our team and provide services to our tamariki and whānau in Te Tai Tokerau / Northland. Provide an effective and efficient Paediatric Occupational Therapy service to children throughout Northland. This will include children with disabilities and developmental problems within Occupational Therapy service criteria.

Based at the Whangarei Hospital Campus, and part of the Child Development Service our team provide Occupational Therapy Services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support children and whānau to achieve their life goals and aspirations. This includes providing therapy, equipment and housing solutions. You will work with the whānau in the community (home based visits), and onsite clinics throughout Northland. In addition, you will be a part of including early intervention services in schools and preschools as part of the team.

About you

As an Occupational Therapist, you will have excellent communication skills and be able to able to relate to and work with a variety of people.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand (OTBNZ) and holder of an annual practicing certificate
  • Ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team and establish and maintain working relationships between staff and clients
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings

Previous experience in Paediatrics and/or neurological rehabilitation is highly desirable.
