Orthopaedic Spine Fellow, Orthopaedic Surgery
The Spine team has a fellowship opportunity that begins on 1 February & runs through to the end of January the following year. Middlemore Hospital has the Regional Spinal Cord Injuries Unit for the upper North Island of New Zealand with a catchment population of 2.5 million. Working with four orthopaedic spine surgeons, the fellow will be involved in the care of acute and elective spine patients, including patients admitted through the Regional Acute Spinal Cord Injury Pathway.
Fellows will also gain experience in the management of the full range of spinal column injuries. Exposure to outpatient clinics allows assessment of new spine patients and those requiring follow up. Elective referrals expose the Fellow to management of degenerative diseases, infections, inflammatory arthritis, adolescent scoliosis, tumours and metastatic disease and complex deformity.
The Fellow would be intimately involved in the assessment, co-ordination, and treatment of patients with spinal cord injuries. This is a clinical fellowship however opportunities for research are available and would be supported.
