The Fellow will contribute to procedures including tumour resection and microvascular reconstruction of structures critical to speech, swallowing, appearance, and implant rehabilitation. Timely surgical intervention is essential to prevent disease progression, and the successful applicant will be an integral part of this care. The fellow will also gain experience in interprofessional collaboration and communication with OMF surgeons, orthodontists, oral pathologists, neurologists, dentists and other surgical disciplines including the interdisciplinary Head & Neck Cancer Team.
In addition, the Fellow will participate in acute work, including surgery for facial trauma and management of severe dental infections involving the mouth, jaws, and neck. For the right candidate there is potential to gain exposure to corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery), bone grafting, sleep apnea surgery, and temporomandibular joint surgery.
The fellow will be involved in research projects during their tenure. Other activities include participation in head and neck tumour board meetings and review of histology. At the conclusion of the experience, the fellow will be properly equipped to accept a teaching/clinical position in an academic medical centre or private practice depending on his or her career interests.
