Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Northern Region is progressing the implementation of the NZREX Primary Care Pathway, an innovative programme designed to support international medical graduates (IMGs) to transition into Aotearoa New Zealand’s health workforce through structured, supported experiences and build a career in primary care.
We are seeking Pre-Vocational Educational Supervisors from both Primary Care and hospital settings to provide professional, educational, and pastoral supervision for pathway participants.
In this role, you’ll help doctors develop the clinical, cultural, and professional competencies required for safe and effective medical practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. You’ll work closely with Clinical Supervisors, host general practices, and the regional programme team to ensure a high-quality, supportive learning environment.
About the role
As a Pre-Vocational Educational Supervisor, you will:
- Provide educational and pastoral supervision in line with MCNZ expectations.
 - Support participants in developing the clinical, cultural, and professional competencies required for safe and effective practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
 - Meet regularly with participants to review progress and support readiness for general registration.
 - Collaborate with Clinical Supervisors, host general practices, and the regional programme team to ensure a high-quality, supportive learning environment.
 - Contribute to programme improvement and supervisor forums.
 - Uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi and promote equity in all aspects of supervision and delivery.
 
Pre-Vocational Educational Supervisors will be appointed across the Auckland Metro Districts to support pathway participants and ensure consistent, coordinated support for the cohort. You’ll work closely with the Clinical Lead and programme team to ensure a cohesive, high-quality educational experience across placements.
About you
You are a dedicated clinician with a passion for medical education and a commitment to equity and excellence in healthcare.
Essential:
- Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
 - Strong interest in medical education and supporting early-career doctors.
 - Demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to equitable health outcomes.
 - Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with a collaborative, supportive approach.
