Our Specialist Outpatient Services are seeking an exceptional nurse leader to guide, develop, and inspire our nursing workforce as we deliver specialist ambulatory care across Tāmaki Makaurau. This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within services grounded in dignity, compassion, and excellence.

About Specialist Outpatient Services

Specialist Outpatient Services encompass a diverse group of service areas delivering local, regional, and in some cases national care—primarily in ambulatory and outpatient settings.

Our teams provide comprehensive, person‑centred care across the following specialist services:

  • Diabetes
  • Sexual Health
  • Sexual Assault
  • Immunology
  • Dermatology
  • Endocrinology
  • Rheumatology
  • Auckland Regional Pain Service
  • Infusion Centre (newly established)

Our nursing workforce operates across multiple levels and settings and is recognised as high‑performing, collaborative, and committed to excellence in care delivery.

About the Role

As the Nurse Leader for Specialist Outpatient Services, you will hold professional, clinical, and operational leadership responsibility for all nursing roles within the service. This is a pivotal position with significant influence over the quality, culture, and performance of nursing practice.

You will shape the strategic direction of nursing, champion best practice, and foster a supportive, high‑performing team environment that ensures safe, efficient, and compassionate care for patients and their whānau.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading clinical quality, safety, and evidence‑based practice across all specialist outpatient services
  • Overseeing workforce development, recruitment, and professional growth
  • Managing day‑to‑day operational activity to support patient flow and service efficiency
  • Ensuring high standards of care, documentation, and patient experience
  • Contributing to and implementing nursing and service‑wide strategies
  • Working collaboratively with the service leadership teams to ensure cohesive, effective operations
  • You will champion best practice, foster a supportive and high‑performing team culture, and ensure that care delivery is safe, efficient, and aligned with the needs of our patients and their whānau.

About You

An ideal person for this role will have:

  • Proven senior nursing leadership experience
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (or eligible for registration)
  • Completed or be working towards, a Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Master’s degree
  • Excellent communication, relationship‑building, and team‑development skills
  • A commitment to equity, cultural safety, and person‑centred care
  • The ability to lead through complexity, influence change, and drive continuous improvement
