About the role: 


An exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic and experienced nurse leader with exceptional leadership and management skills to lead the nursing workforce in the Emergency Department at Counties Manukau. The Middlemore Emergency Department is one of the busiest in New Zealand with over 130,000 patient presentations per year. The department has over 350 nursing staff working across the Acute Adult ED, Kidz First ED, and Speciality Assessment Units.

In this role you will provide professional, clinical, and operational leadership for all nursing roles working within the Emergency Department. The position holds professional and managerial accountability across nursing, with responsibility for clinical quality and safety, workforce development, service delivery, and the implementation of nursing and service strategies. You will also ensure effective day-to-day service operations of the ED through working collaboratively with the Service Leadership Team. 

You will be instrumental in implementing best practice, ensuring safe, efficient and effective care delivery. You will lead and monitor operational activity to support patient flow, quality standards, staff wellbeing, and patient’s experiences of emergency care. You will work collaboratively with the ED leadership team and other services to ensure that patients receive safe, quality acute care in a timely manner.

The Counties Manukau ED is situated in a lower socio-economic area and serves a culturally diverse, high need population with high acuity presentations.

 

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse with a current nursing council of NZ APC (no restrictions)
  • Masters Qualification (completed or in progress)
  • Minimum of 5 years recent clinical management experience
  • Minimum of 5 years post registration acute care clinical nursing experience
  • Experience in leading and working within an acute care team
  • Demonstrated practice at Senior Nurse level on the PDRP framework
