About the Role
We are excited to be opening a new primary birth and assessment unit. The unit is purpose-built to provide calm, whānau-centred, maternity care in a nurturing and empowering environment.
Our Primary Birth Unit will:
- Support normal birth
- Promote physiological labour and birth practices
- Ensure whānau feel respected, informed, and empowered throughout their journey
We are seeking experienced midwives who are passionate about physiological birth and ready to embrace this exciting opportunity.
As a Midwife Specialist, you will:
- Work in partnership with LMCs and midwives within the unit
- Provide clinical support and professional guidance where needed
- Coordinate day-to-day operations as the senior midwife on shift
- Mentor and support junior midwives and students
The role is based on Level One of the Birthcare building. This intimate unit includes three birthing rooms and a dedicated assessment space. We will grow this service as things get busier, meaning there may be room to increase your FTE in the future.

- Are deeply committed to whānau-centred, evidence-based practice
- Bring extensive experience in antenatal assessment, primary birthing, and postnatal care
- Are motivated to contribute to equity and improving whānau outcomes
- Have experience with supporting physiological birth practices
