Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are excited to be opening a new primary birth and assessment unit. The unit is purpose-built to provide calm, whānau-centred, maternity care in a nurturing and empowering environment.

Our Primary Birth Unit will:

  • Support normal birth
  • Promote physiological labour and birth practices
  • Ensure whānau feel respected, informed, and empowered throughout their journey

We are seeking experienced midwives who are passionate about physiological birth and ready to embrace this exciting opportunity.

As a Midwife Specialist, you will:

  • Work in partnership with LMCs and midwives within the unit
  • Provide clinical support and professional guidance where needed
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations as the senior midwife on shift
  • Mentor and support junior midwives and students

The role is based on Level One of the Birthcare building. This intimate unit includes three birthing rooms and a dedicated assessment space. We will grow this service as things get busier, meaning there may be room to increase your FTE in the future.
