An exciting opportunity has become available to work as a Pou Toko Ora / Cultural Peer Support Worker, as part of our Southern Lakes (Taupo, Turangi & Mangakino) based Closer to Home service, Te Toki Haumanu. The role presents a real opportunity to make a positive difference.

He korero mō te tūranga - About the Role 

Our kai mahi (staff) all share a common goal of supporting tangata whai ora to live their best lives as independently as possible in the community. Te Toki Haumanu Closer to Home services will provide care and support for people to support them to achieve their recovery and wellbeing goals with a key goal of avoiding admission to the Whare Whakaue ward or specialist services.

  • Part time (up to 40 hours per week)
  • Working business hours, Monday – Friday from 8am to 4:30pm
  • On-call roster after hours and weekends

As Pou Toko Ora (Cultural Peer Support Worker) you may be: 

  • Supporting People with their recovery in their own home
  • Connecting or reconnecting them with their whānau and natural supports.
  • Accompanying people through their whakapapa journey
  • Independent cultural opinion for people who may receive compulsory assessment or treatment
  • Inspiring hope and recovery
  • Empowering people to do the things they love, as independently as possible
  • Support people with budgeting or other skills to help manage the cost of living crisis
  • Attending appointments and advocating for people

  • Be culturally respectful and non-judgmental.
  • Have good professional boundaries.
  • You must hold a current full driver’s licence.
