About the Role

Waitematā District Specimen Services has a part time permanent 0.8FTE (64 hours per fortnight) vacancy available for a hardworking and reliable person. You will be part of a friendly, dynamic and culturally diverse team working in a busy, fast-paced environment contributing to the delivery of Waitematā District’s promise of “Best care for everyone”. This position is a great opportunity for a person who either has registration in (preferred) or is willing to work towards the Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician qualification (MLPAT) in Specimen Services.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated data entry experience in a laboratory, have knowledge of sample collection tube types, with excellent written & verbal English skills and comprehension.

You will be required to participate in:

  • fully rostered shifts; Monday to Sunday including evening and midnight shifts.
  • evening shifts: 1:30pm – 10pm; 3:15pm – 11:30pm
  • midnight shifts: 11pm – 7am
  • day shifts: 6:30am – 3pm, 7:30am – 4pm, 8am – 4:30pm, 9am - 1pm and 10am - 6.30pm
    and work weekdays, weekends and public holidays at both North Shore Hospital and Waitakere Hospital laboratory (predominantly 8 hour shifts with occasional 4-5 hour short shifts.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Medical Sciences (MS) Council of New Zealand registration (Preferred) or be willing to work towards MS Council registration as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician
  • NZ residency or NZ citizenship (Preferred)
  • NZ drivers licence
  • Experience and skill in Specimen Services tasks (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of the Delphic Explorer application is an advantage
  • Ability to cover service delivery hours’ weekdays, weekends and public holidays
  • Ability to work at North Shore and Waitakere Hospital Laboratory campus
  • Additionally, you’ll be self-motivated, able to multitask and work with minimum supervision, have excellent data entry skill and accuracy, work calmly under pressure, listen and communicate effectively, deal with a wide range of people in a sensitive manner, and be able to follow procedures and instructions with a high level of attention to detail.
