About the Role
Join Health New Zealand | Te Toka Tumai Auckland and play a vital leadership role in supporting the Quality & Safety of the Te Toka Tumai. We are seeking a strategic and collaborative leader to guide the Clinical Quality & Safety service teams with a clear and purposeful direction.
The Lead – Clinical Quality & Safety provides leadership for clinical quality and patient safety and is accountable for the performance of the Clinical Quality & Safety Service across Te Toka Tumai. This pivotal role supports responses to serious adverse events and complex complaints, enabling system-wide learning and continuous improvement. You will work closely with clinical and organisational leaders regionally and nationally, ensuring quality and patient safety initiatives result in meaningful system learning. A key aspect of the role is building organisational capability in systems science and clinical quality and safety skills. The successful candidate will also collaborate with the Clinical Improvement Network to coordinate and deliver impactful improvement initiatives, while managing the service’s budget, full-time equivalent (FTE) allocations, and overall performance to ensure operational excellence.

About you
You will be a strategic and values-driven leader with a strong commitment to biculturalism and achieving equitable outcomes for Māori. You bring a relevant clinical qualification, along with a postgraduate qualification in quality improvement, patient safety, or a related healthcare field. With at least five years’ experience in healthcare quality and safety leadership roles, you have a deep understanding of the New Zealand health system and a proven ability to lead teams and manage performance. Your experience includes implementing complex, large-scale system improvements, and ideally, working with diverse populations including Māori and Pacific communities. Additional experience in areas such as healthcare simulation, clinical education, infection prevention and control, certification, adverse event, or complaints management would be highly valued.
