About the Role

We seek a courageous, passionate, and driven person who has Tikanga knowledge, experience, wide community kaupapa networks and wants to be part of leading the Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP). This role supports the engagement of priority populations - Māori, Pacific Peoples and high deprivation communities in the NBSP, from outreach to completion.

Operationally you will work with the small NBSP team and contribute to helping people participate in the programme, complete documentation, network and help to improve the programme locally.

This is a permanent, full‑time role (working 40 hours per week) and requires flexibility to cover rotating shifts between 8.00am and 4.30pm, Monday to Sunday.

Although primarily based in the Western Bay of Plenty, you will work across the region from the car, office, on the phone and in person.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Te Whatu Ora National Bowel Screening Programme team in the Bay of Plenty supports the delivery of a nationally consistent bowel screening service for eligible people across the region. The local programme focuses on early detection of bowel cancer to improve health outcomes for the Bay of Plenty community. The team is committed to providing accessible, high‑quality screening services that are culturally responsive and centred on whānau wellbeing. The National Bowel Screening Programme has seen more than 2000 kiwis’ cancers found and treated.

About You

You are flexible, adaptable, and enjoy variety in your work, with a genuine interest in providing holistic, community‑based care. You are motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference and are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of people and whānau across our region.

What you will bring:

  • A mātauranga-informed undergraduate qualification or equivalent
  • Computer competence
  • Significant and diverse life experience, including work within health services, such as experience with a Māori health service provider.
  • The ability to apply a range of strategies to improve cancer outcomes for Māori and their whānau
  • Confidence to mihi and perform karakia at appropriate times, with a sound understanding of and commitment to Tikanga and Kawa
  • Evidence of completed Treaty of Waitangi training and relevant Māori health education, training, or professional development
  • Evidence of walking the talk
