About the Role
As a Kaiāwhina, you will play a vital role in supporting māmā and their whānau during pregnancy and the first year of parenting. Working within the Maternal Mental Health service, you will help bridge clinical care with cultural support, ensuring services are accessible, responsive, and grounded in whānau wellbeing.
This is a highly rewarding and community - based role where you’ll build strong relationships with māmā and whānau, supporting mama – pēpi bonding, providing practical guidance on pēpi care and development, and helping whānau navigate health and social services. You’ll also deliver group - based activities and support individual care plans, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to improve outcomes in a culturally safe and meaningful way.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Te Ara Manapou is a Maternal Mental Health and Addiction service supporting māmā and whānau across Hawke’s Bay. You’ll be part of a passionate, multidisciplinary team committed to equity, culturally responsive care, and improving outcomes for Māori and whānau in the community.

About you
As a Kaiāwhina, you will bring:
- A Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or working towards it)
- Strong cultural awareness and ability to work effectively with Māori and diverse communities
- Excellent relationship - building and communication skills
- A compassionate, whanau - centred approach to care and support
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equitable health outcomes
