We are seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to join our Hospital and Specialist Services group in Te Toka Tumai. In this strategic role, you will work closely with senior leaders to deliver People & Culture initiatives, practices, and systems that align with organisational goals and business requirements. You will also lead or support the implementation of strategic HR projects and transformational change initiatives across the organisation.

As our HR Business Partner, you will:

  • Build strong relationships and credibility with senior stakeholders, proactively addressing workforce opportunities and challenges in line with P&C strategies.
  • Ensure HR initiatives are effectively planned, communicated, and implemented to meet the needs of managers and teams.
  • Understand the service’s goals and challenges beyond HR to support successful operational and strategic outcomes through 100-day, annual, and multi-year plans.
  • Provide expert advice and support to managers on the full range of HR services, employment agreements, policies, frameworks, and legislation.
  • Lead employment relations and change management activities, ensuring fair, consistent, and timely processes.
  • Collaborate with managers to identify opportunities to enhance performance, productivity, and employee engagement.
  • Promote a culture of constructive, collaborative engagement and shared problem-solving with unions and employees.
  • Partner with wider HR teams to implement initiatives that support Te Whatu Ora’s culture, values, and employee engagement.
  • Stay up to date with employee/employment legislation and industry developments.

About you

You are an experienced HR Business Partner with a genuine passion for building organisational capability. You understand HR strategy and know how to engage, influence, and deliver outcomes across teams in a complex, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment. Your approach is efficient, pragmatic, and approachable, allowing you to build productive relationships with people at all levels.

This role requires the following skills and experience:

  • Significant experience (5+ years) in an HR Business Partnering role within complex, multi-entity, geographically distributed, and/or unionised environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship management, and influencing skills, with proven experience supporting leaders through change.
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand employment and health & safety legislation.
  • Experience in giving meaningful effect to the expectations outlined in Te Tiriti o Waitangi at a leadership level.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and confident decision-making.
  • Demonstrated professional and personal credibility, operating with integrity and transparency.
  • Ability to make difficult and challenging decisions that support strategic goals and organisational vision.
  • Capability to influence and engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to create impact and maintain proactive stakeholder relationships.
