We have an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to become part of our dynamic Emergency Department (ED) team at Middlemore Hospital.

As a Health Care Assistant, you will work closely with our Registered Nurses and wider team, supporting patient care and contributing to the smooth running of the department to ensure a positive experience for patients and their whānau.

ED is a fast paced and high-pressure environment. We are looking for someone who is an adaptable and motivated team player, contributes positively to the workplace and has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Following training and sign off, the HCA role may include extended responsibilities such as performing phlebotomy, ECGs, point-of-care testing, and monitoring vital signs under the supervision of registered nurses.

About the Team/Service

The Middlemore Hospital Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Australasia, delivering high-quality emergency and acute care for both adult and paediatric patients. It is a fast-paced environment where patient-centred care is achieved through strong teamwork and the support of multidisciplinary teams and services.

About You

To be considered we will need the following:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A minimum level 3 Health Care Assistant NZQA Qualification or equivalent (to be assessed) or overseas trained Registered Nurse
  • At least 2 years HCA Experience in New Zealand.
  • 1+ years of experience working in an acute environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the healthcare system
  • Someone who thrives in high energy environments
