We are seeking a health care assistant to work with a dynamic community sexual health team that cares for people and their whanau regardless of gender or sexuality. We strive to provide a holistic, wellbeing focused service that puts the patient’s choices at the heart of everything we do. Our focus on Māori health and equity means we would prefer a candidate with knowledge of Māori models of care.

 

About the Role

You will be working within a supportive multidisciplinary team who provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of STIs and other sexual health related needs as well as gender-affirming care. The role includes working under the direction and delegation of the registered nurse, welcoming people who self-refer to the service, assisting people to self-test for STIs, booking appointments, basic triage, and ordering and management of supplies

This is a permanent, full-time positions, where you will work Monday to Friday.

About the Team / Service

Waikato Sexual Health Services provide free-to-all and confidential specialist service for people living in the Waikato. We provide clinical management of STIs and HIV and are committed to ensuring people can access gender-affirming care. Providing non-judgemental compassionate care is our core value because stigma and shame strongly predict harm. We have close links with Waikato Hospital’s infectious disease team around the management of HIV patients. We are a values based and inclusive team that is committed to deliver the best health outcomes for our total population.

 

About you

Required skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti or Waitangi.
  • Current work permit and previous experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Achieved health related NZQA unit standards will be an advantage
  • A genuine non-judgmental empowering approach
  • A great sense of humour
  • The ability to awhi patients and whanau
  • Proven capabilities of working with very diverse groups of people
