About the Role
We’re looking for a compassionate and reliable Health Care Assistant who is committed to caring for our Northland community and keen to grow your skills in a specialised cardiac environment.
You will work under the direction and delegation of the Clinical Nurse Manager or delegate to support safe care for patients and whanau by assisting with delegated activities and play a vital role in supporting high quality cardiac care for patients across Te Tai Tokerau.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Assist nursing and medical staff with the provision of fundamental care for patients and whanau
- Meet and greet patients and answer phone enquiries and refer calls to a clinical nature to the appropriate health professional
- Assists in the daily functioning of the designated department to ensure its smooth running such as housekeeping duties, restocking and some reception/administrative tasks as specified
- Acts in a culturally safe and sensitive way at all times, demonstrating the ability to communicate with other cultures.
- Provide comfort and support to patients and whānau
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well‑organised clinical environment
- Contribute to smooth daily operations within the CCU
This is a permanent part time role, working 32 hours per week – Monday to Friday 1000-1830 rostered shifts to support service delivery.

The Coronary Care Unit is a friendly, specialised inpatient cardiology service based at Whangarei Hospital.

About you
- Proficiency in reading, speaking and writing English
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Works in collaboration with fellow team members to achieve objectives and tasks for the good of the whole. Has a positive working attitude, is flexible and adaptable. At the same time is able to take direction from the staff responsible for doing so.
- Whilst not essential a Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) with a focus on Health assistance or be working towards this qualification is desirable
- Customer service or experience working in a healthcare setting are also desirable
