2027 Joan Mary Reynolds Fellowship, Starship Child Health

About the role

This two-year Fellowship is for an advanced Paediatric trainee. It is designed to assist a clinician to developing research skills and clinical knowledge in an area of their choice.

The Fellowship position includes supervised clinical activity and a strong focus on research. The clinical activity is to be Starship Children’s Health based with employment through the University of Auckland. The salary for this fellowship is set at the University of Auckland Research Fellow level 1 salary which in 2026 is $103,412 per annum for full time.

The expectation of the research component is that the applicant will enrol to complete a PhD or MD at the University of Auckland. Enrolment as an MD or PhD student can be done after commencing the fellowship. The primary supervisor for this fellowship will need to be in the Department of Paediatrics: Child & Youth Health at the University of Auckland. The next Fellowship role will begin in February 2027

About you and your application

In consultation with a nominated supervisor, applicants must submit:

  1. A curriculum vitae.
  2. Statement of support from your proposed project supervisor.
  3. A brief outline of the structure of the clinical experience.
  4. A five-page outline of the proposed research project that should include: Rationale for Research, Design and Methods, Expertise and Track Record of the Research Team, Research Impact, Māori Health Advancement, Pacific Health Advancement.
  5. A statement about the career benefits this fellowship will have for the applicant.
  6. The names and addresses of two referees, one of whom can be your supervisor.
  7. MD or PhD plans.

Applicants will need the support of the Clinical Director from the area(s) in which the research & clinical activity will be undertaken.
