About the Role
As a Consumer Taangata Whaiora Advisor, you will use your lived experience of mental health and/or addiction recovery to empower others and reshape the mental health system from the ground up. Your voice—and the voices of the people you walk alongside—will help influence policy, design service initiatives, and hold the system accountable to the communities it serves.
This role is all about:
- Amplifying the voices of taangata whaiora, aiga, and whaanau
- Ensuring equity, especially for Maaori, Pacific, disabled, youth, and rainbow communities
- Supporting co-design, project work, hui, and fono that shape the future of care
- Embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and honouring Maaori-led wellbeing initiatives
What You’ll Bring
- NZQA Level 4 qualification in mental health, addictions, social sciences or related fields
- Personal lived experience or experience supporting a close family/whaanau/aiga member through mental health and/or addiction and recovery
- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity principles, and Maaori and Pacific worldviews
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to speak Te Reo Maaori or a Pacific Island language
- A full clean NZ drivers licence
