About the Role

We are looking for an Anatomic Pathologist with an interest in achieving specialist dermatopathology certification- either a Fellow in Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia qualification (FRCPA) to achieve RCPA Dermatopathology certification; or an otherwise qualified anatomical pathologist seeking certification through the European administered dermpath exam. This is an excellent opportunity to work with NZ’s largest and highly specialised community based laboratory service, with the largest single site volume of dermatopathology cases, and greatest number of specialist dermatopathologists (four full time and one visiting) to support your training. The anticipated time pursuing a Certificate is two years, with a broad general and dermpath role in Year one, and the second year full time dermpath leading up to the College or European exam. The position is a permanent one however, so the opportunity to remain in the laboratory exists.

In this role, you will be working between 40 to 45 hours per week. However, the actual hours of work will be negotiated with the Clinical Lead during the interview stage. You will work rostered hours to meet the requirements of the service as needed and some on call availability is required.

APS processes a large volume of skin samples and is an ideal environment for candidates who have an interest or expertise in dermatopathology. Our candidates have an excellent examination success rate thus far in advanced dermatopathology certification.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Anatomic Pathology Service (APS) in Mt Wellington provides services to approximately 4,000 private specialists, private surgical hospitals and general practitioners with around 500 histology specimens received per day, and a further 15-20 for non-gynaecological cytology. Over 50% of the cases are skin. Other specimens include gastroenterological, gynaecological, breast, head and neck, respiratory and urological pathology. This role does not involve gyneaecologic cytology or autopsies.

About you

As the ideal candidate for this role you will be a trained Anatomical Pathologist and will either have or be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand.
