Registered Nurse, Community Mental Health Team

Taranaki Base Hospital

6 Month, Fixed Term Position

About the Role

As a registered nurse, you will play a valuable role in the multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include key-working, risk assessment, building of treatment plans, administration of medication, and occasionally the delivery of therapeutic groups. You will work alongside other mental health professionals to provide client centred, trauma informed care.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our team is composed of Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Support Workers, Nurses, and Psychiatrists. Much of the work will occur in the community work, treating people in their environment. You will also liaise with the inpatient and crisis teams as required.

We will also provide a comprehensive orientation process when you start so that you become familiar not only with our service but also the wider mental health sector in Taranaki.

About you

Successful candidates will have:

  • A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) in New Zealand
  • Experience in, and passion for, working with whai ora experiencing significant mental health distress
  • Adept skills at building rapport, assessing risk and assisting to whai ora to build wellness plans
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication & relationship building skills
  • Flexibility to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team 
  • Understanding and application of the principles of the treaty of Waitangi, with a culturally safe and appropriate approach to practice
  • Display enthusiasm to embrace new ideas and innovative thinking towards service delivery.
