The Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Specialty Nurse BreastCare to join our dedicated BreastScreen Counties Manukau (BSCM) team. Minimum FTE for this role is 0.5 FTE with potential to add FTE at a later stage.

This role is central to providing specialist breast care nursing expertise, leadership and coordination for women recalled for further assessment following breast screening. You’ll play a pivotal part in supporting women and their whaanau throughout the screening, assessment, and referral-to-treatment pathway.

As a senior nurse, you will promote excellence in professional nursing practice, lead quality improvement initiatives, and act as a role model and mentor for colleagues. You will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team — including radiologists, surgeons, medical directors, and support services — to ensure high-quality, culturally safe care that meets national standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the care of women recalled for further assessment after screening mammograms.
  • Provide advanced nursing assessment, support, counselling and education to women and their whaanau.
  • Ensure compliance with the National Policy and Quality Standards (NP&QS) and Nursing Council requirements.
  • Lead and contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and policy development.
  • Act as an advocate for women, ensuring care is delivered in a manner that meets physical, psychological, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • Accurately collect, record and manage clinical and statistical data to support continuous service improvement.

About You:

  • NZ Registered Nurse with current Practicing Certificate
  • Minimum of three years’ experience, post registration in NZ
  • Relevant experience related to the speciality area, surgical and/or oncology and/or relevant specialty area
  • Post graduate qualification completed or in progress or prepared to undertake post graduate studies relevant to specialty practice
