About the Role

The Patients at Risk (PAR) Nurse is an enhanced senior nursing role, which focuses on patient safety and is an outreach of Critical Care. The foundation for their practice is prevention, early detection and early intervention for actual or potential deteriorating patients. It formalises a pathway via the Early Warning Score System utilised by Adult (EWS), Paediatric (PEWS) and Maternity (MEWS) care areas, providing a proactive care model of patient safety.

About the Team/Service

The PAR team is a supportive team of senior nurses who will guide and share their skills with others. They work on a 24/7 rostered and rotating roster and cover the whole Waikato Hospital Campus. They also provide outreach support to the rural hospitals.

About you

Skills and experience required:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Designated Senior Nurse Experience, with proven leadership capability
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in advanced life support/ICU/ED
  • Demonstrated highly effective written and verbal communication
  • Quality Management and evidence of embedding this into clinical practice
  • People management, performance management, conflict resolution and team building experience
  • Postgraduate qualification or working towards one
