Clinical Nurse Specialist, Urology

About the Role
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Urology, you will provide safe, clinically effective specialist nursing care for adult patients and their families/whānau across the full urology continuum, including acute, elective, cancer, and long-term condition pathways. This unique role combines frontline outpatient nursing with service-level patient management, supporting both individual patient care and system-wide outcomes.
Working within the Patient Service Centre, you will coordinate care across diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up, ensuring patients progress safely and efficiently from referral through to elective surgery. You will provide clinical oversight within the urology specialty to support compliance with Ministry of Health (MoH) timeframes, contribute to robust reporting and data quality requirements, and champion high-quality, equitable healthcare across all urology pathways.
This role operates within a shared leadership model, working closely alongside the Operations Manager, Clinical Director, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioner, and other key healthcare professionals and hospital managers to enhance the patient journey and overall service delivery. This is a full time, 1 FTE role
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Patient Service Centre surgical specialties team manages the administrative and clinical patient journey from first referral through to elective surgery. The team works collaboratively to ensure clinically safe, timely, and equitable care, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and patient-centred outcomes. This role is based at North Shore Hospital.
About you
You will bring:
- A Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in urology or a related specialty
- Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Specialty
- Level 4 Portfolio
- Advanced clinical assessment, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Experience coordinating complex patient pathways across diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up
- A strong commitment to equity, quality improvement, and reducing health inequities
- An interest in advancing urology specialist nursing practice, including progression towards Nurse Practitioner endorsement through postgraduate study, advanced assessment, and supervised clinical practice
