Clinical Nurse Specialist – Neurology and Stroke
Combined roles: Neurology 0.2FTE, Stroke 0.2FTE
Permanent, part-time

About the Role

The CNS Stroke is responsible for collating/entering Lakes stroke reperfusion and clot retrieval data in the National Stroke Register, and coordinating/submitting Lakes National Quarterly Stroke Reports. The CNS reviews inpatients to provide patient/whanau/staff stroke education and support, attends Code Strokes as able, and participates in MDT discharge planning to achieve better patient outcomes. 

The CNS Neurology facilitates nurse-led clinics. They manage complex presentations with oversight from the SMO; liaise directly with patients, whanau and GPs; and coordinate and support timely access to elective treatments. This includes ongoing management, monitoring and surveillance to avoid preventable treatment sequelae and hospitalizations to improve quality of life for patients with Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and other complex neurological disorders.

This CNS role is varied and requires a high degree of autonomy and initiative. CNSs have a responsibility toward improving patient outcomes by providing high standards of care supported by audit, research, evaluation and implementation of evidence-based, best practice care.

About you

  • Registration with Nursing Council New Zealand (NCNZ)
  • Current Annual Practicing Cert
  • Post graduate diploma in nursing
  • Current full drivers licence
  • Has or working toward Master of Nursing (desirable)
  • Has experience in leadership (desirable)
