About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – Stroke service is employed to advance client and family centred care, education and support for people receiving specialist care from the Stroke service at Tauranga and Whakatane Hospitals. This role delivers nurse led follow up for people via the outpatient service and is responsible for patient education and specialist assessment including monitoring of response to treatment. The CNS for Stroke participates in the advancement of professional knowledge and skills within the specialty using evidence-based practice.

About the Team/Service/Location

The CNS role is an important role in the Stroke team. You will work with many clinicians to advance the treatment and outcomes for people who have experienced a stroke or stroke symptoms.

About You

As a Stroke CNS you will work in a multidisciplinary way with other health professionals. It is imperative that you have the skill set to engage with patients and their whanau to ensure that care is appropriate and timely.

What you will bring:

  • Provide advanced evidenced based specialty care that meets specialist nurse practice standards and optimises client outcomes
  • Coordinates, educates and ensures practice standards are maintained across service delivery including inpatient nursing teams in partnership with Clinical Nurse Manager and Nurse Educator
  • Actively manages clinical risk and contributes to quality and risk planning
  • Participates in the development of care pathways/protocols/guidelines
