About the Role
This Clinical Nurse Specialist role works within a team driving infection prevention and control strategies, managing complex outbreak responses, and providing expert advisory support across the hospital.
Working closely with clinical leaders, service managers, and multidisciplinary teams, this role plays a key role in leading Processes and Standards across the organisation to achieve compliance with infection control standards. The CNS role also oversees surveillance programmes, provides expert advice and contributes to wider patient safety initiatives. Tauranga Hospital provides a dynamic environment to influence practice at a service-wide level while remaining grounded in evidence and collaboration.
This is a permanent full-time position working 1 FTE (working 40 hours per week).

Our Infection Prevention and Control team at Tauranga Hospital is a tight-knit group of skilled professionals who work collaboratively across all wards and services. The team is passionate about improving patient outcomes through robust education, strong policy development, and effective response planning. About you
A confident and capable nursing professional with a strong background in infection prevention and control. Brings strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to advise at senior levels. Values evidence-based practice and has a proven ability to embed quality and safety frameworks. Holds or is committed to pursuing a postgraduate qualification in infection prevention.
What you will bring:
- Current NZNC registration and Annual Practicing Certificate
- Senior-level clinical nursing experience
- Expertise or formal training in Infection Prevention & Control
- Postgraduate qualification in IPC, or commitment to begin study
- Demonstrated ability to influence change and lead improvement initiatives
