About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated IBD Nurse Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team in delivering high quality care to patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. This is a highly valued role that provides essential support, education, and coordination of care for individuals living with IBD.
While IBD experience is advantageous, it is not essential. Comprehensive training can be provided through well-established IBD nursing curriculums via:
- ECCO (European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation)
- GENCA (Gastroenterological Nurses College of Australia)
- Access to a strong collegial network through the NZ IBD Nursing Group and NZ Gastroenterology Nurses College, both of which offer regular training and development opportunities.
The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the NZNO Collective Agreement. Additional benefits include kiwisaver contributions (if eligible), professional development and wellness support.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide specialist nursing care and support for patients with IBD
- Collaborate with gastroenterologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals
- Facilitate patient education and self-management strategies
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives

About the Service
You will be joining a supportive and experienced gastroenterology team at Waikato Hospital, a tertiary referral centre providing specialist care to patients across the Midland region. Our service manages a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality, multidisciplinary care for people living with IBD.
About you
Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:
- At least 5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
- A current New Zealand APC
- Completed a Professional Development and Recognition Programme – at Proficient and/or above
- In the process of studying towards, or completed a post graduate qualification
- Adaptability, flexibility and detail orientated
- Ability to work independently
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
- Familiarity with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in gastroenterology and/or IBD preferred – however, training will be supported for the right candidate
