About the Role

The Patient Blood Management (PBM) service at Waikato Hospital is looking for an experienced, highly motivated senior nurse to fill this Speciality Clinical Nurse (SCN) role. The SCN focus will be on supporting and enhancing patient outcomes by improving patients’ medical and surgical management in ways that boost and conserve the patients’ own blood.

A large component of the SCN role is to provide ongoing education and support to staff; ensuring they are responsible in their use of blood products, and to patients; helping them to optimise their health and manage individual needs.

The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the NZNO agreement. Additional benefits include kiwisaver contributions (if eligible), shift allowances, professional development and wellness support.

About the Team/Service

Waikato Hospital’s PBM team is comprised of a small multidisciplinary group of enthusiastic specialists committed to use of evidence-based research and practice to improve patient outcomes. The team has a Clinical Lead, Anaesthetists, a Clinical Nurse Coordinator, Speciality Clinical Nurses and a Clinical Nurse Specialist for Intravenous Immunoglobulin therapy.

 

About you

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti or Waitangi
  • Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand; inclusive of scope of practice
  • A current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
  • Clinical experience with administration of blood and blood products
  • Completed a postgraduate qualification or be prepared to undertake postgraduate study
  • Involved in research, teaching and innovation that has changed clinical practice
  • Ability to conduct audits, write reports and update policies/procedures
  • Experience in or ability to learn how to maintain the hospital intranet website
  • Experience using Excel and ability to undertake further education to use Power BI
