The Role:

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of rangatahi involved in the Youth Justice system? We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Centre for Youth Health team, supporting young people and their whaanau in the Counties Manukau community.

This is a unique opportunity to work in an advanced nursing role, engaging directly with rangatahi aged 12–20 years who are involved with Oranga Tamariki’s Youth Justice services. As a CNS, you will lead health-focused interventions that are culturally responsive, holistic, and grounded in a whaanau-centered approach. You will serve as a bridge between social and health services to ensure timely access to care and improve long-term outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced clinical nursing assessment and interventions in the community setting.Collaborate with Oranga Tamariki site offices, youth physicians, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Build trusting relationships with rangatahi, their whaanau, and caregivers to support health literacy and positive health behaviors.
  • Facilitate access to health services, complete comprehensive health and developmental assessments, and contribute to Family Group Conferences.
  • Provide leadership in child/youth health service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement.
  • Navigate and overcome systemic barriers to ensure equitable outcomes for tamariki and whaanau.

About You:

  • NZ Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Minimum 5+ years recent clinical experience in child/youth health, preferably at a senior level
  • Relevant Postgraduate qualification in child/youth health or equivalent, completed or near completion
  • Advanced clinical assessment and trauma-informed practice skills.
  • A strong understanding of the Oranga Tamariki Act, youth development, and intersectoral systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, cultural competency, and a passion for equitable health outcomes.
  • Full & Clean NZ Drivers Licence
