We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist- Cardiology Research to join our energetic cardiology service at Waitematā.
You will play a critical role in the healthcare system by specialising in the care of patients within cardiology clinical trials.
This role encompasses managing clinical research projects within the cardiology clinical trials unit including:
- Clinical trial contract and budget negotiation
- Patient assessment against eligibility criteria for individual projects
- Retention of patients in research projects
- Identification of adverse events and end point events
- Data reporting
- Communication with principal investigators, patients, and general practitioners.
This is an advanced practice role to undertake a comprehensive assessment of clinical appropriateness for research, CVD risk, treatment options, and clinical research appropriateness. The role is designed to work in partnership with the patients and their whanau to ensure safe participation in clinical research.

About the Team / Service / Location
Waitematā is the largest Health District in New Zealand, with two acute admitting hospitals at North Shore and Waitakere. Our cardiology service delivers high-quality acute and elective care across both sites, with advanced services including CTCA, cardiac MRI, diagnostic angiography, and coronary intervention provided at North Shore Hospital.
About You
For this role you will have:
- RN Level 4 or equivalent in speciality with a current professional portfolio
At least 5 years’ post-registration experience in cardiology nursing - Evidence of advanced physical assessment, history taking, diagnostic reasoning, and pharmacology knowledge
- At least five years post registration practice in cardiology nursing and multidisciplinary team practice
You will be a mature, positive, proactive, and enthusiastic practitioner with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments. A patient-focused, inclusive, and team-oriented approach is essential.
