This is an exciting leadership opportunity within an acute paediatric service, ideal for a senior nurse working at the top of their scope who is ready to step into (or continue in) a formal leadership role. You’ll play a key part in shaping high-quality, family-centred care for tamariki and whānau while being supported by an experienced senior nursing and operational leadership team.

About the Role

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Manager for our Paediatric Ward at Te Whatu Ora Taranaki. This 1.0 FTE fixed-term parental leave cover role offers an excellent opportunity to lead a dedicated paediatric nursing team in a busy inpatient setting.

As Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide clinical, professional, and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality care. You’ll work closely with the Senior Nursing team, medical staff, service and operational managers, and the wider multidisciplinary team to support service delivery, workforce planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This role is well supported with a comprehensive orientation and induction programme and is ideally suited to a nurse with advanced paediatric experience and proven leadership capability who enjoys navigating complex environments and driving positive change.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Acute Paediatric Ward team is a committed and collaborative multidisciplinary group providing inpatient care to children and their whānau across the Taranaki region. The service values teamwork, equity, and continuous quality improvement within a supportive learning environment.

About you

· Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current APC

· Minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate nursing experience in Paediatrics (Expert Nursing portfolio desirable)

· Proven leadership experience with advanced paediatric clinical expertise

· Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills

· Experience or knowledge of quality improvement, with the ability to lead quality projects

· Understanding of nursing legislation in New Zealand

· Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to bicultural practice

· Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and manage competing priorities in a changing environment
