Clinical Nurse Educator – Children’s Unit

Permanent, Part time (0.5 FTE/40 hours per fortnight)

This a great opportunity to join our Clinical Nurse Educator team with specific focus on paediatric care. This is an exciting role where you will have direct influence on providing clinical education to registered nurses within a busy Children’s Unit at Rotorua Hospital.

About the Role

As a Clinical Nurse Educator – Children’s Unit, you will play a vital role in strengthening the knowledge level of registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals by providing high quality, contemporary and evidence-based practice education. This position will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager to identify educational needs of the unit, providing leadership and guidance to staff. Grounded in adult learning principles and aligned with national and international professional standards, the educator identifies and leads training that enhances the nursing standards of the unit. 

In addition to clinical expertise, the role embodies strong partnership responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, championing equitable health outcomes and supporting Māori-led approaches to care. The Clinical Nurse Educator fosters collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, models professionalism, and cultivates a culture of innovation, safety, and continuous improvement. Through leadership, relationship building, and a commitment to high-quality education, the role ensures that Health NZ Lakes delivers a robust, responsive, and culturally grounded education to staff within the unit.

About the Team/Service/ Location

While this educator role is aligned to the Professional Development Unit, fostering excellent and collaborative professional relationships with the leadership team of the Children’s Unit ensures a cohesive and effective education plan is implemented.

About you

Key experience and professional requirements for the role include:

  • Registered Nurse with a current NCNZ practising certificate and relevant postgraduate qualifications. 
  • Proven clinical experience within a paediatric area 
  • Regular involvement in clinical teaching or education, with a strong commitment to adult learning principles. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and share clinical expertise confidently. 
  • Experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice and commitment to equity focused, culturally safe care.
