About the Role:
The Papakura Birthing Unit is looking for a senior midwife to join the team as a Clinical Midwife Manager.
The purpose of this position is to provide day to day clinical management of the community midwifery team, student midwives, graduate midwives on rotation through the service and the community HCA. The role will contribute to the longer-term strategies of supporting the demand for midwifery care at Papakura birthing unit and actively support integrated community services for mothers and babies.
The Clinical Midwife Manager will be an exemplar of clinical midwifery practice by carrying an agreed clinical caseload whilst providing clinical and holistic healthcare expertise for community midwives within the service. The role will support the further development of integration of community-based services for mothers and babies at Papakura birthing unit and in the wider community with the support and guidance of the Midwife Manager at Papakura, Clinical Maaori midwife advisor and Service Manager Primary Birth Units. As a Clinical Midwife Manager, you will provide expert clinical leadership and direction, ensuring the effective day-to-day management of maternity services. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, supporting midwives, nurses, and healthcare assistants in delivering exceptional care both in community service and whilst providing 2IC cover for the birth unit manager as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the community team to ensure safe and high-quality maternity care.
- Support and mentor midwives, nurses, and healthcare assistants in clinical practice and professional development.
- Oversee bed management, staffing allocation, and resource planning in collaboration with Midwifery Managers.
- Ensure compliance with New Zealand Midwifery and Ministry of Health standards.
- Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement, audit, and risk management.
- Work in partnership with Lead Maternity Carers and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive maternity care.
- Actively contribute to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in maternity care, ensuring equitable health outcomes for Māori women and their whaanau.
- Support the implementation of health and safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
About You:
- NZ Registered Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
- 5+ years recent clinical experience in a secondary/tertiary birthing facility in NZ.
- Demonstrated understanding of the New Zealand Maternity Model of Care and Section 94.
- Proven leadership experience - ability to lead and coordinate a team.
