About the Role

As a newly registered Social Worker, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact in the Children’s Hub and across Te Whata Moanarua – Allied Health Therapy Services. From supporting whanau with newborns in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), to guiding whanau through maternity and paediatric care, and supporting women within our terrace clinic space, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to clinical excellence, cultural responsiveness, and patient safety. With mentorship from seasoned practitioners and a clear pathway to grow your clinical capability, you’ll contribute to the wellbeing of Hawke’s Bay communities while living the values that define our health sector. About the Team/Service/ Location

This entry-level Social Worker role offers a unique opportunity to work across inpatient services including Paediatrics, Maternity, the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), Terrace Clinic, and some community support. As part of the wider Te Au Tuauri – Medical stream within Allied Health, you’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to support the health and wellbeing of patients and whānau. You’ll be immersed in a dynamic clinical environment, contributing to safe, effective care while building your professional capability alongside experienced practitioners.

About you

As a new entry-level social worker, you will have the following requirements:

  • NZ Registered Social Worker with current annual practicing certificate
  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree (or higher) recognised by New Zealand Social Work Registration Board
  • Excellent understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi is essential
  • Experience working with children, young people and their whanau
  • Flexibility, a willingness to learn, an ability to work autonomously and fantastic problem-solving skills
  • Emerging knowledge of health and social issues and key legislation.
  • Willingness and interesting in working within therapeutic, grief and loss or counselling knowledge would be beneficial.
