About the Role

The position reports to the Attendants Team Leader and it is led by a Waste Supervisor who also reports to the Team Leader. The role involves walking up to 15km per day, lifting heavy items and pushing wheelie bins and linen trolleys from the wards to the waste dock.

The role also partly works in the hospital doing patient transfers, collection and delivery of equipment, lab samples, medical gas etc. You need to be very fit to succeed in this role.

All attendants need to be available to work a rotating roster.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Collect and dispose of waste from around the hospital
  • Timely patient transfers to and from appointments

About the Team/Service

We are an essential and diverse team working across the hospital and all specialties, supporting clinical staff to ensure safe and efficient hospital and patient flow. As a key frontline service, we are often the first people to welcome patients on arrival and the last to farewell them. We are a friendly, welcoming and supportive team that work closely together. This role offers valuable exposure to a wide range of hospital services and provides pathways for learning, development, and future opportunities within Health NZ | The Whatu Ora.

 

About you

  • Excellent fitness to work in an environment with heavy physical demands including frequent walking, pushing and lifting.
  • The ability to build and maintain positive respectful relationships with customers and team members.
  • Be reliable with an excellent attendance record.
  • Must have a full NZ driver’s licence.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
