Starship Children's Hospital

Auckland District Health Board

Starship Children's Hospital is one of New Zealand's key specialist children's health facilities, treating around 100,000 children every year. These patients are children with very serious and complex health conditions. The Starship building is now linked to the main building of Auckland City Hospital, and forms part of the whole site complex collectively known as Auckland City Hospital.

Starship has been most fortunate to have the high profile Starship Foundation successfully fund-raising for specific projects, for over a decade.

Starship is a major teaching centre. It aims to lead the nation in Paediatric training and research. The hospital was New Zealand's first hospital built exclusively for children and young people to address their health needs. Starship's prime focus is on delivering family-centred care in a child friendly environment. Starship was designed to appeal to children and young people. It is built around a central atrium with a rainforest theme, a playground and natural light.

There are 200 beds, and 16 day stay beds.
