Auckland City Hospital serves a population of around 444,100 seeing almost two million patients annually. Auckland City Hospital is a teaching hospital and Auckland District Health Board is the largest trainer of doctors in the country with approximately 1,200 doctors, with around 630 of which are in various stages of training resident medical officers. CETU - the Clinical Education and Training Unit is dedicated to offering a wide range of teaching and training opportunities to both House Officers and Registrars training at Auckland City Hospital.
Auckland City Hospital has over 7,000 staff, including bureau staff. The workforce comprises clinical, management and support staff in the hospitals and corporate and support functions. It has over 570 beds, with services ranging as follows: Cardiothoracic Surgery and Intensive Care Unit, Trauma Service, Emergency Department, Neurosurgery with Neuro High Dependency Unit, Children's Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care, Heart Lung Liver and Renal Transplant Service, High Risk Obstetrics, Oncology - Largest Oncology Unit in NZ with 6 linear accelerators, Women's health, Surgical Services including Orthopaedics, ENT, Urology, Vascular, Neurosurgery, a large Paediatrics service which is largely based at Starship Hospital next door, Radiology, Psychiatry, as well as General Medicine and Subspecialties including Cardiology, Renal, Haematology, Gastro, Geriatrics and Respiratory.
At House Officer level Auckland Doctors can rotate through the Auckland Region. Auckland City Hospital has 119 runs in the following areas: Anaesthesia Peri-Operative, Dental, Emergency, Medicine (General and Specialties), Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, and Surgery (General and Specialties).
At Registrar level Auckland Doctors can rotate through the Auckland Region. Auckland City Hospital has 360 runs in the following areas: Anaesthesia, Emergency, Medical (General and Specialties), Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Oncology-Radiation, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Palliative Care, Public Health, Sexual Health, Surgery (General and Specialties), Virology, and Xray.
