2024 Training Year Cardiothoracic and Vascular ICU Senior House Officers

Work in Auckland in 2024 and see why it is loved by so many:

·       Consistently ranks as one of the most liveable cities in the world

·       Highly diverse and multicultural – Auckland (Tāmaki Makaurau) has more than 200 ethnic communities

·       Energetic nightlife, burgeoning restaurant scene, and an abundance of cultural and leisure activities

·       Experience the East and West Coasts of Aotearoa New Zealand within a short drive, and hike in the Hunua or Waitakere Ranges on your days off

Why train as a Cardiothoracic and Vascular ICU Senior House Officer:

·       Gain ICU exposure at an introductory level. CVICU has CICM accreditation and this can count as your foundation term prior to entering the CICM training programme

·       We provide care to patients following cardiothoracic and vascular surgery and heart and lung transplantation. We also look after cardiology patients requiring intensive care, as well as all patients in New Zealand who require mechanical cardiac and respiratory support

·       Regular weekly teaching on core ICU topics

·       Gain skills in assessment, problem solving, treatment plans; crisis management; procedural skills including ultrasound guided central venous cannulation; communication skills working in an MDT; research and audit

Please note:

·       The CVICU SHO run is only for 6 months duration from 15 July 2024. It is expected that (subject to satisfactory performance) CVICU SHOs will progress into either their first ICM registrar position, or in selected circumstances, into an Anaesthesia SHO position. Candidates wishing to do this will need to apply for these positions at the same time as your CVICU SHO application, and progression would be subject to these applications being successful. Should you be appointed for the second 6 months (from July), you will need to make plans for what you would do for the first 6 months of the year.

Eligibility and how to apply:

·       Required experience: 24 months completed House Officer runs

·       Preferred: some exposure to acute care and a commitment to ICM training
