About the Northern Region Psychiatry Programme

The Northern Region Psychiatry Training Programme I Hinengaro Ākonga ō Tokerau is the largest psychiatry training programme of its kind in New Zealand and ranks among the top programmes in Australia and New Zealand.  It serves as an exceptional springboard for a successful career in psychiatry. Many of our graduates secure local employment post-fellowship, ensuring a smooth transition into their professional careers.Led by a team who have trained both locally and internationally within the past decade, our programme offers a comprehensive and diverse range of training experiences found nowhere else in Australasia.  We understand the challenges trainees may face in vocational training and are committed to addressing both trainees educational and individual needs.  We invest considerable time and resources to provide a well-rounded and supportive training experience.Trainees are guided and supported by the Director of Training and local Training Facilitator throughout each rotation, in addition to their Consultant Psychiatrist Supervisor. Why Train as a Psychiatry Registrar in the Auckland Region

o    Cultural immersion: Māori mental health and Pacific Island mental health rotations.

o    Specialised areas: Paediatric consultation liaison psychiatry, maternal mental health, forensic psychiatry, intellectual disability, medical administration and clinical leadership rotations.

o    Academic opportunities: An academic psychiatry position working in close collaboration with the University of Auckland.

About you

  • There is no need to have completed a psychiatric run previously; all you need is an interest and a passion for psychiatry.
  • You need eligibility for general scope registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

  • Candidates will be ranked for interview eligibility based on their cover letter and CV.
